List of 100 Pharmacy Schools, Colleges & Universities

According to US News and World Report, 2012 annual survey of universities and colleges which includes breakouts for graduate schools and academic specialties.  Their rankings are based on peer review, academic and research achievements, and many other factors.  Here is their list of the 100 pharmacy programs in the country.

  1. University of California/San Francisco School of Pharmacy  is a strong research school at a premier medical facility.
  2. University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy offers the PharmD and some unusual graduate programs.
  3. University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy  operates at both the Twin Cities and Duluth campuses.
  4. University of Texas College of Pharmacy has both a masters and doctoral program with six areas of specialization.
  5. University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy has dual degree programs in business and economics.
  6. University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Pharmacy has a division devoted to Social and Administrative Sciences.
  7. Ohio State University College of Pharmacy  has a graduate program with four divisions, among them Pharmacognosy.
  8. Purdue University School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences has a BS in Pharmaceutical Sciences along with the PharmD program.
  9. University of Michigan College of Pharmacy offers a degree in Pharmaceutical Engineering.
  10. University of Arizona College of Pharmacy extends graduate work into areas that include Drug Discovery and Design.
  11. University of Southern California School of Pharmacy has a strong research division to match its medical school.
  12. University of Utah College of Pharmacy includes toxicology as a primary academic focus.
  13. University of Washington School of Pharmacy  also has some unusual academic options which include a Masters in Biomedical Regulatory Affairs. 
  14. University of Florida College of Pharmacy has an impressive research division for PhD candidates.
  15. University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy has a program to help graduates develop biotech research credentials.
  16. University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy  provides a PhD option in Biochemical Pharmacology.
  17. University at Buffalo SUNY School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences offers a full range of degrees in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
  18. University of Iowa College of Pharmacy has a research program in Natural Products Chemistry.
  19. University of Maryland School of Pharmacy has two eminent research divisions in addition to the Department of Pharmaceutical Practice.
  20. University of Tennessee Health Science Center operates six schools including the College of Pharmacy.
  21. University of Kansas School of Pharmacy has a PharmD program with an elaborately designed clinical element.
  22. Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy has made drug delivery systems a research priority.
  23. University of Colorado School of Pharmacy has an extensive continuing education program for current professionals.
  24. Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy has developed a graduate program that incorporates the behavioral aspects of clinical pharmacy.
  25. University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy has an unusual research organization called the Center for Pharmaceutical Marketing and Management.
  26. Medical University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy has a very active research program alongside its PharmD school. 
  27. Rutgers University School of Pharmacy provides some academic focus on the interaction of the pharmacy industry and government.
  28. University of Georgia College of Pharmacy operates the Center for Drug Discovery, focused on infectious diseases and cancer.
  29. University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy  has an undergraduate Pre-pharm program of two years duration which is followed by the four year PharmD course of study.
  30. University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Pharmacy includes a Pharmaceutical Sciences Graduate Program targeted directly at the biotechnology industry.
  31. University of the Sciences in Philadelphia College of Pharmacy began pharmaceutical instruction in this country, almost 200 years ago.

  38. University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy maintains an active program to help its graduate students obtain residency positions and certification.
  39. Washington State University College of Pharmacy offers a Masters in Health Policy and Administration along with the PharmD and other degrees.
  40. Wayne State University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences has an excellent selection of medical professional degrees to complement its PharmD and PhD in Pharmaceutical Science programs.
  41. West Virginia University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy represents a ninety year tradition of pharmaceutical education at WVU.
  42. South Carolina College of Pharmacy  has both the PharmD program and a graduate research program located on two state university campuses.
  43. University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Pharmacy offers a Masters in Pharmaceutical Evaluation and Policy as well as the PharmD and PhD programs.
  44. University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Pharmacy has a full program for pharmacy students offering Bachelors and Masters degrees as well as the PharmD.
  45. Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions  asks its pharmacy graduate students to take the Pharmacists Oath at the beginning of the academic program rather than at completion.
  46. Duquesne University School of Pharmacy maintain a Pharmaceutical Technology Center for graduate research.
  47. Northeastern University School of Pharmacy offers a PhD program heavily focused on the biotech development aspects of the field.
  48. University of Montana College of Health Professions and Biomedical Sciences has a PharmD program located in the Skaggs School of Pharmacy.
  49. University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy includes a specialization in Pharmacoeconomics in its PhD program.
  50. Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences offers a dual MBA/PharmD program.
  51. Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy requires two years of preparatory work prior to enrollment in the PharmD program.

  59. University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy is a growing program that moved into graduate studies recently and received full accreditation in 2007.
  60. Ferris State University College of Pharmacy was accredited by the Michigan Board of Pharmacy in 1893, and has been a fixture in the field ever since. 
  61. Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences/Boston offers both undergraduate and graduate programs in Pharmacology.
  62. North Dakota State University College of Pharmacy, Nursing and Allied Sciences opened its doors for pharmacy studies in 1902 with five students.  
  63. South Dakota State University College of Pharmacy has the traditional PharmD program and a PhD program for graduates interested in research.
  64. St. Johns University College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions offers a PhD program in four pharmaceutical research disciplines and a PharmD in its clinical practice program.
  65. Temple University School of Pharmacy has a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences with emphasis on Medicinal Chemistry – for students interested in the biotech fields.
  66. East Tennessee State University College of Pharmacy maintains a full range of clinical and research graduate programs.
  67. Florida A&M University College of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Services operates its main campus in Tallahassee and four satellite facilities in Tampa, Miami, Jacksonville and Crestview.  All are affiliated with major medical centers.
  68. Hampton University School of Pharmacy offers an entry level six year program to freshman students culminating in the PharmD.
  69. Howard University College of Pharmacy, Nursing and Allied Health Sciences provides both an entry level option and a doctoral program leading to the PharmD.
  70. Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine & School of Pharmacy offers a year-round, three year course of study on its Erie, PA campus or the four year option at its Bradenton, Florida campus.
  71. Loma Linda University School of Pharmacy opened its doors in 2002, with the specific goal of “educat[ing] pharmacists in a Seventh-day Adventist Christian setting.”
  72. Long Island University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is operated on the Brooklyn campus, offering a range of undergraduate and graduate options in pharmaceutical studies.
  73. Massachusetts College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences/Worcester offers an accelerated PharmD program for students who have completed the pre-entry coursework that is a 34 month, year round course of study.
  74. Midwestern University of Chicago College of Pharmacy offers a fully accredited PharmD program for both entry level students and those with some relevant educational background.
  75. Midwestern College of Glendale College of Pharmacy is the Arizona campus for this school, offering a five year PharmD program.
  76. Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Pharmacy was opened in 2005 as a partnership of the University of Akron, Youngstown State, Kent State and Cleveland State.
  77. Nova Southeastern University College of Pharmacy  opened the first south Florida college of pharmacy in 1987.
  78. Ohio Northern University Raabe School of Pharmacy offers a six year course of study for the PharmD and a dual degree in Law and Pharmacy.
  79. Pacific University School of Pharmacy is a small school in Oregon with a respected, accredited program.
  80. Palm Beach Atlantic University School of Pharmacy offers the PharmD and a joint MBA/PharmD program.
  81. Shenandoah University School of Pharmacy has the standard doctoral programs along with a PhD in Pharmacogenomics.
  82. South University School of Pharmacy offers its accelerated PharmD program at its Savannah, GA and Columbus, SC campuses.
  83. Southern Illinois University/Edwardsville School of Pharmacy  offers the only downstate Illinois doctoral program in the field.
  84. Southwestern Oklahoma State University College of Pharmacy has a PharmD program that is available in accelerated format.
  85. St. John Fisher College School of Pharmacy opened in 2006 to provide a doctoral program for Western and Central New York students.
  86. Texas A&M University College of Pharmacy has both a Department of Pharmacy Practice and a Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
  87. Texas Southern University School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences offers the PharmD degree in two formats: one for post graduate students and one for entry level students.
  88. Touro University California College of Pharmacy is a new (but accredited) school located in Vallejo, CA on the old Mare Island Naval Base.
  89. Appalachian College of Pharmacy, formerly known as the University of Appalachia, is a recently accredited doctoral program in clinical pharmacology.
  90. University of Charleston School of Pharmacy is a four year program located in Charleston, West Virginia.
  91. University of Findlay College of Pharmacy offers a six year doctoral program with the final year devoted to clinical experience.
  92. University of Hawaii/Hilo College of Pharmacy opened its doors in 2006 as part of the state higher education system.
  93. University of Louisiana/Monroe College of Pharmacy offers a Bachelors in Toxicology as well as the PharmD and PhD programs.
  94. University of Southern Nevada College of Pharmacy is located on the school’s Henderson, NV campus where it offers a traditional and accelerated PharmD program.
  95. University of Toledo College of Pharmacy is both a practitioners’ school and a research school with graduate programs for both areas.
  96. University of the Incarnate Word School of Pharmacy is a PharmD program that was recently opened and accredited.
  97. Western University of Health Sciences has both a Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and a Department of Pharmacy Practice.
  98. Wilkes University School of Pharmacy offers a Bachelors in Pharmaceutical Sciences and a PharmD program.
  99. Wingate University School of Pharmacy has a graduate program for PharmD students and a dual degree MBA/PharmD program as well.
  100. Xavier University of Louisiana College of Pharmacy is a New Orleans school offering a recently accredited PharmD program.
